In order to avoid fierce competition, many firms, particularly MSMEs, manufacturers, and service providers, think that selling to the government is a better option than looking for customers on their own. With a similar idea, the Government E-Marketplace, or GeM, was established. The market place enables vendors to command fair rates for their products and services, and it provides government agencies with a one-stop shop for all of their requirements. This has evolved into India's national procurement portal. GeM also contributes to moving closer to the goal of a Digital India.
